Participants at the ECCMIS Training for advocates
Earlier today, advocates and stakeholders participated in a one- day training on the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) at the Supreme Court Conference Hall. The session was organized by the ECCMIS Technical Committee.
Opening the training, Acting Registrar Inspectorate of Courts, HW Gabriel Angualia, underscored the importance of ECCMIS in eliminating inefficiencies, improving accountability, and enhancing transparency in court operations.
"Your role in the successful implementation of ECCMIS is very critical, since you will be the direct users, facilitators, and beneficiaries of the system," he told participants.
He emphasized that with electronic filing and service, advocates will save on transport and related costs while minimizing risks associated with travel. He further highlighted the accountability aspect of the system, which makes it easier to monitor case progress and identify delays, urging advocates to embrace ECCMIS as a tool for more efficient and equitable justice delivery.
Mr. Joseph Ssinabulya, the ECCMIS Project Manager, guided participants through the System's main features. These include modules for case registration and filing, case tracking and management, e-payments and fees management, hearings management, and document and evidence management. He noted that ECCMIS allows all users; advocates, judicial officers, and litigants, to access the same case file electronically, reducing errors, delays, and opportunities for corruption.
Ssinabulya revealed that ECCMIS has so far been rolled out in 31 courts across the Greater Kampala region and will gradually expand nationwide. "Although the rollout is costly and challenging, the Judiciary is committed to ensuring all courts are covered," he assured participants.
Participants also benefited from a practical session led by Mr. Brian Oryema, a computer programmer, who demonstrated filing of miscellaneous applications on the platform.
The training was moderated by Mr. Denis Rwatooro, Senior Systems Administrator.
